Lower Dock Warning

In the past 25 years galvanized bolts have been used to through bolt dock & deck structures, they work fine as long as they are at least five feet above the waterline. Below that point, salt water that is drawn up through the piling will corrode the bolts and the nails from the inside out causing structural failure.

NPI has solved this problem, for the last five years we have been using stainless steel through bolts on all construction below the bulkhead. As well as using stainless steel ring shank nails. If your dock is more than five years old it should be inspected as soon as possible; if the bolts and fasteners are substandard, they can be upgraded at a fairly minimal cost. You could always wait until it collapses, but the repairs will obviously be extensive.
